DIY Home Security Tips

Use only solid wood or metal doors

Burglars find it very easy to split doors made from plywood or hollow wood. Therefore, you should enhance your home security by installing doors made of metal or solid wood at all entrances.

Use metal pub on sliding doors

Do not depart sliding doors (or even windows) unprotected. Install metal bars behind them, since this will prevent burglars from gaining entry after smashing the glass.

Display yard signs

Although yard signs might not stop desperate burglars from entering your house, they can discourage intruders because they pass the concept you've got a functional alarm system and also that all intruders are monitored. Upon viewing yard signs, most thieves will think twice before entering your house because they will realize that they may be captured.

Install deadbolt locks

Even though they're more expensive than spring latch locks, deadbolt locks are much stronger and therefore provide additional protection. So, you should include at least one-inch thick deadbolt locks to all outside doors in your house. However, when installing deadbolt locks, make sure that thers little or no space between the doors and their frames, as such areas make it easy for intruders to force the door apart. To reduce the space, use metal or plywood sheets to reinforce the doorway.

Hide all wiring

One of the initial things burglars do is finding any wires hanging on the exterior of your house and disconnecting them so as to disable all security apparatus. Therefore, hide your home safety wires as a smart move to protect against this.
